Our FocusThis year, the studio focused on the issue of violence against women and girls (VAWG), deploying a participatory communication and arts-based approach for evidence-building and driving social change in Alimosho and Ikorodu, both rural areas in Lagos State, Nigeria.
Why VAWG?Gender based violence is a global plague that has resulted in a wide range of challenges, especially for women and girls. From community to community, violence against women and girls continues to increase resulting in very sad statistics.
Community InterventionIn many communities, violence against women and girls is rarely discussed as the social challenge it is due to stigma and other cultural beliefs. Such communities deserve advocacy and our participatory approach offers the right guide for such intervention.
To tackle violence against women and girls (a human rights challenge), we need to understand it and its complexity. The IO Studio approach follows a participatory and art-based style, and the resources here show you the what, how and why it matters.
